This winter, I visited Huis Ten Bosch, located in Sasebo City of Nagasaki prefecture, for the first time in my life, to spend the New Year holiday there. The hotel I stayed at was Hotel Amsterdam, the only official hotel that stands within the theme park zone.
This hotel is located at the center of the theme park. At the Year-End Countdown Fireworks, the outside terrace of the hotel restaurant was opened to the public and we were able to watch the brilliant firework displays in the night sky. As you can see from the pictures here, this hotel is all European. During my stay, the only things that reminded me of the fact that I was in Japan were the celebration sake offered to me in the hotel lobby and the Japanese special breakfast I had there on New Year's Day. At Hotel Amsterdam, you can spend a unique 'West meets East' New Year, which reflects the long history of Nagasaki as an international city.
