Sendai Airport, this relatively new, beautiful airport with a curvy-shaped modern terminal building is the main airport of the Tohoku region. Although it was damaged and flooded badly by the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011, because of an immediate and efficient rescue endeavor first by the United States Air Force, then later by additional US and Japanese military units, the airport was able to miraculously reopen just one month after the disaster, on April 13, 2011. This rescue mission was called 'Operation Tomodachi (friend)'. The access from the airport to JR Sendai station is an easy 30-minute ride. Since the terminal building is directly connected to the airport train station, you just have to follow the sign and a few minutes later you'll be standing at the platform of the train station. A ticket to JR Sendai station is 630 yen.
