Each year during spring, the Mitake area of Mie is filled with color thanks to numerous cherry trees that line the approach to the history-filled Shinpuku-in Temple. In total, there are around 2000 cherry trees which dot the roadside for approximately one and a half kilometers, and the area is so scenic that it has been designated as one of Japan's Top 100 cherry blossom viewing spots.
Some of the most beautiful vantage points along the route are when the trees surround the area's terraced rice fields - it looks like something from a painting.
Typically, the best time to visit to see the trees in bloom is from early to mid April. Updates on the tree's blooming status are usually posted on the official website if you want a more definite confirmation closer to the season.
Getting there
The cherry blossom area is around 1 hour and 10 minutes drive from the Hisai IC on the Ise Expressway. On-site parking is available at the price of 500 yen per regular vehicle.
