This winter, Heian Shrine in Kyoto will host the NAKED Garden of Light Heian Shrine event, running from December 13, 2024, to January 13, 2025. Visitors will experience a unique mix of traditional Kyoto craftsmanship and modern digital art, bringing the shrine’s beauty to life in a new way.
As you enter the grounds through the Otenmon Gate, you’ll be greeted by the glow of Kyoto umbrellas from Hiyoshiya, a respected umbrella maker with over 160 years of history. These handcrafted pieces are lit up by NAKED’s digital projections, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that sets the stage for the event. In the East Shrine Garden, Kyoto lanterns from Kojima Shoten and Kojimaan, both established more than 200 years ago, will light up the iconic pine trees.
NAKED’s immersive light displays are a key part of the event. One highlight is the projection mapping at Shobikan, where images of four gods and seasonal lanterns will appear across the garden and reflect in the pond. Visitors can also rent NAKED Distance Lanterns® which change colors and patterns as you walk around the grounds. It's a fun way for visitors to become part of the light display!
