Nutritious, delicious, and easy to access across Japan, sweet potatoes are a popular food item and they come served in various forms. Battered and fried golden and crispy as tempura, cut into fries, or even used as a component in desserts like dango and mochi – the sky is the limit!
The Kyoto Oimo Daisakusen event at Umekoji Park is a celebration of the versatile root veggie, and last year's event drew in crowds of around 50,000 people. Along with being able to enjoy sweet potato in various ways, there will be plenty of family-friendly activities including a soap bubble play area and trampolines for the little ones.
If that wasn't enough, the event coincides with cherry blossom season, adding an extra element of natural beauty for visitors to appreciate.
Getting there
Umekoji Park is located just two minutes on foot from Umekōji-Kyōtonishi Station, which is served by the JR Sagano Line.
