Each autumn, Kyoto's deep-rooted tea culture takes center stage at the Kitano Grand Tea Ceremony, held at the historic Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. As the grand finale to the Kyoto Marugoto Tea Expo, this three-day event invites visitors to immerse themselves in the refined world of Japanese tea.

The festival brings together tea masters, artisans, merchants, and producers from across Kyoto Prefecture, offering an accessible introduction to traditional tea practices. Throughout the shrine grounds, guests can observe and participate in a variety of ceremonies, including those from multiple schools of tea. Outdoor tea gatherings, exhibitions on historic tea traditions, and booths featuring tea-related goods and sweets give a well-rounded experience of the region's long-standing connection to tea.

This event is designed to welcome both domestic and international visitors, no matter if you're new to Japanese tea or a long-time enthusiast. With its combination of cultural heritage, craftsmanship, and serene setting, the Kitano Grand Tea Ceremony offers a unique way to experience Kyoto's seasonal charm.

Access to the shrine grounds is free, though specific tea experiences, seats, or special exhibitions may require separate tickets. These details are often announced closer to the event. For additional information, please visit the official Kyoto Tea Expo website.
