Each year during Japan's rainy season, Kyoto's Mimuroto-ji Temple opens their hydrangea garden, which is filled with around 20,000 hydrangea flowers in 50 different varieties. As well as being a glorious floral delight, the temple is an interesting one for history buffs, too - it was founded around 1200 years ago.

The projected dates for the event this year are from June 1st through to July 7th, but this can be subject to change depending on blooming conditions. Keep an eye on the official website for any updates closer to the timeframe.

Admission to the temple grounds is priced at 1,000 yen for adults and 500 yen for children.

Getting there

Mimuroto-ji Temple is located around 15 minutes on foot (or a 5 minute taxi ride) from Mimurodo Station, served by the Keihan Electric Railway's Uji Line.

Alternatively, buses run from JR Uji Station to the temple area - take bus number 40 or 250, and the temple is around a 20 minute ride away.
