The Fushimi area of Kyoto is blessed with high-quality groundwater and rich natural surroundings, making it a great place for sake production. The Gekkeikan Sake Brewery is just one brewery in the area, and they'll be hosting their annual festival in early March.
The event itself is free of charge to enter, and is set to include brewery tours, music performances, food booths, and paid sake tasting sessions. The foods on sale are designed to pair well with the sake types on offer, so come hungry!
Payment for paid tastings is cash only, so ensure you have some yen on you.
Getting there
The Gekkeikan Sake Brewery is located just five minutes on foot from Chushojima Station on the Keihan Line, or around 10 minutes on foot from either Fushimi-Momoyama Station (Keihan Line) or Momoyamagoryo-Mae Station (Kintetsu Kyoto Line).
Please note that the event organizers mention that coming by car is prohibited.
