On Friday, April 25, 2025, Japan’s No.1 Gyukatsu restaurant will open its tenth location in Kyoto, beside the beloved Arashiyama Bamboo forest.

This new restaurant is easily accessible by foot from Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, Arashiyama Station, and Saga-Arashiyama Station, making it an ideal spot to try authentic Japanese gyukatsu. Elevate your already unforgettable trip with an equally memorable meal.

The star—gyukatsu

Similar to tonkatsu (deep-fried pork cutlet), gyukatsu is a deep-fried beef cutlet. The beef is seasoned, coated in breadcrumbs, and fried to perfection, resulting in a satisfyingly crunchy exterior and soft interior. The meat is typically paired with cabbage, rice, soup, and dipping sauces for a well-rounded meal. You can choose from a variety of beef cuts, including heavenly Japanese black wagyu.

The restaurant

The new two-story restaurant has 66 seats. If possible, try to grab a seat on the second floor. From this elevated vantage point, you can admire Arashiyama’s lush bamboo grove and scenery as you dine on the delectable meal.
