Every year on the first Saturday of September, Maruike Park in Kagoshima's Yusui Town comes alive with soft, flickering light during the Meisui Maruike Appreciation Evening. Around 2,000 bamboo lanterns are carefully arranged along the surface of Maruike Pond and throughout the walkways of the park’s bamboo forest, creating a serene atmosphere that draws visitors from across the region.
The event is held to express gratitude for the clear spring water of Maruike Pond, a vital natural resource that supports local life. Beyond the lantern display, the evening features a market, live stage performances, and a lineup of food trucks, blending tradition, local culture, and a festive spirit. The combination of music and soft lighting in the park invites guests to slow down and appreciate the simple beauty of the setting.
With its mix of nature, community, and quiet celebration, Meisui Maruike Appreciation Night is a one-of-a-kind experience that offers a peaceful alternative to more crowded summer events.
