Umeshu is a type of Japanese liqueur which is made by steeping ume plums in alcohol and sugar. The Japan Umeshu Festival celebrates this popular drink, and the event will include over 140 umeshu types available to sample from breweries all across Japan.
Tickets for the event can be arranged via 7-11 convenience stores for ¥1100, or purchased on the day at a slightly higher ¥1200. The ticket price allows attendees to sample from those 140 umeshu types for a 30 minute period.
Getting there
The event will take place adjacent to the Kairakuen Tokiwa Shrine in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture. The area can be accessed in just a minute on foot from Kairakuen Station, which is served by the JR Jōban Line. Please note this is a seasonal train station which only operates during February and March (plum blossom season).
