Less than an hour train ride out of Osaka, you can visit it's coastal counterpart, a lively and comfortable city filled with fantastic food, views of the mountains and ocean and quick to access ports to nature. It mixes the feel of urban life with a slow pace all its own, not far from Kansai's other hot areas. Even if you're traveling just for their famous beef, it is well worth the time.
