The Lunar New Year is a huge celebration in many Asian countries, and is also often referred to as the Chinese New Year or Spring Festival. It's a way to commemorate the arrival of a new season and the hope, renewal, and prosperity it symbolizes.
If you're in the Kobe area and looking for a way to enjoy this special celebration, check out the Nankinmachi Spring Festival. The three-day event will include cultural performances including the Chinese lion dance and tai chi, various restaurants offering special Lunar New Year menus, and even a lottery where attendees can be in the running to win some great prizes.
The event is free to attend, but do bring yen if you plan on making any purchases.
Getting there
The Kobe Chinatown/Nankinmachi area can be accessed in just three minutes on foot from Motomachi Station, which is served by the JR Kobe Line and the Hanshin Main Line + Kobe Kosoku Line.
