An immersive exhibition exploring French Impressionism

2024 marked the 150th anniversary of the first Impressionist exhibition in Paris, which was a moment in history that changed the course of art. To celebrate this milestone, Kobe is hosting the Monet & Friends Alive exhibition from January through March, offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience the revolutionary world of French Impressionism in a whole new way. The exhibition visited Tokyo last year, and the Kobe iteration is bound to be just as popular.

Part of the appeal of Monet & Friends Alive is that it explores art alongside cutting-edge technology. Instead of merely viewing paintings on a wall, visitors get to be completely immersed in the world of Impressionism. Through the latest in projection and immersive technologies, iconic works from Monet and his contemporaries—the likes of Camille Pissarro, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, and Paul Cézanne—will come to life in stunning, high-definition detail on massive screens.

The exhibition isn't just visual—it engages other senses, too. Classical music will accompany the projections, and the melodies have been carefully selected to evoke the same emotions as the artworks themselves. Even scents are incorporated, making for a truly unique experience.

This is a ticketed event, with pricing slightly different from weekdays to weekends and holidays. Weekday adult admission is priced at 2700 JPY, whereas weekend admission is 2900 JPY. Prices are lower for students, and pre-school aged children receive free admission.

Getting there

Monet & Friends Alive takes place at the Design and Creative Center Kobe (KIITO Hall), which can be accessed via bus in around 20 minutes from Kobe Station. On foot, it takes around 30 minutes along the waterfront.

Please note that the center does not have dedicated parking facilities, so patrons are advised to utilize public transportation wherever possible.
