If you enjoy a spot of ice skating in the winter months, a limited-time event is bringing a rink to the heart of Hokkaido's capital. Smile Rink Sapporo runs for 10 days, and allows attendees to enjoy an urban skating session flanked by tall buildings and illuminated trees after dark.
Please note that the hours from the event differ slightly from weekdays to weekends. On weekdays, the rink operates from 12:00 until 21:00, and on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays those hours are extended to 11:00 until 21:00 (last entry at 20:30).
Ticket prices also differ based on the day of your visit. Weekday admission is priced at ¥1000 for adults, ¥500 for school aged students, and free for those under elementary age. On weekends and holidays, that increases to ¥1500 for adults, ¥700 for school aged students, and ¥500 for those under elementary age. Skates can be rented at the venue for an additional ¥300.
Gloves are required for all skaters – you can bring your own or rent them on site (priced at ¥300). In addition, helmets are required for those under elementary age.
Getting there
The event takes place at Sapporo Kita 3-jo Plaza (also known as Akapla), which can be accessed in 6 minutes on foot from either Sapporo Station or Odori Station.
