Paranomic Views of Nakashibetsu

Observe the Roundness of the Earth

Nakashibetsu Town in northwest Nemuro City is known as a dairy town. 15 kilometers from the center of the town lies Kaiyodai Observatory. At the top of the observatory is a two-story round building. On the second floor is the observation deck, where you can see the vast meadows where cows graze, the Shiretoko mountain range, and even the Notsuke Peninsula on a clear day.

The first floor has a souvenir shop and a cafe. The tables face the outside and you can enjoy views of the area while having your meal. There is also an information area detailing the history of the town.

I still clearly remember the day I first landed in Japan, and since then it has been my goal to set foot in all 47 prefectures. I try to look for less touristy areas, preferring the countryside to the city. I'm always amazed by the many Haagen Dazs and ice cream flavors available only in Japan.
