Ukiyo-e Immersive Art HIROSHIMA is coming to Hiroshima City from July 18th to September 6th, 2026, bringing an immersive digital take on classic Japanese art to NTT Cred Hall. Produced by Ikki Co., Ltd., this touring exhibition reimagines ukiyo-e through large-scale projections, 3DCG animation, and multi-area video spaces that allow visitors to step inside some of Japan's most famous woodblock prints.
The exhibition has already drawn major crowds on its travels, with previous stops in Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka, as well as Nagoya, Kagoshima, and even Milan in Italy. To date, it has welcomed over 350,000 visitors, making it one of the most successful immersive art exhibitions focused on traditional Japanese culture.
Inside the venue, more than 300 works by well-known ukiyo-e artists such as Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Hiroshige, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Kitagawa Utamaro, Toshusai Sharaku, and Utagawa Kunisada are transformed into moving digital artworks. Projection mapping and layered visuals bring waves, landscapes, actors, and mythical scenes to life, creating a walk-through experience that's designed to be accessible for all ages.
In addition to the digital displays, the Hiroshima edition will also feature physical ukiyo-e prints and reproductions, along with easy-to-follow explanations of Edo-period culture, daily life, and entertainment. Photography and videography are permitted throughout the venue, making it a popular stop for art lovers and casual visitors alike.
Ukiyo-e Immersive Art HIROSHIMA runs daily throughout the period with no closing days, and ticket details will be announced closer to the opening date. For anyone interested in seeing how traditional Japanese art meets modern technology, this limited-time Hiroshima stop is worth adding to the calendar.
