Overview

Further away from the western edge of central Tokyo lies Higashiyamato City where the natural beauty of the Tama region really begins to open up. A stunning vista provided by Tama Lake. the city is home to several natural green spaces and a day spent enjoying them is a nice way to spend some Tokyo time. Here we introduce a few of the parks and natural spaces of Higashiyamato and how to reach them.

Higashiyamato Park

Set up to help protect and nurture the area's original environment, Higashiyamato Park is the result of the efforts of the city's local residents. A great place to spend some relaxing time, the park is home to ponds, thick groves of native flora, as well as walking trails and even play areas for the young ones.

A 10-minute walk from Musashi-Yamato Station on the Seibu Tamako Line.

Higashiyamato Sayama Park

A beautiful wilderness right by Tama Lake, Higashiyamato Sayama Park is a green space filed with lovely groves of pines and oak trees. The area is also home to the Toko Doki Pond, wooden play equipment for the children that blends well the surrounding environment as well thousands of flowers in full colour throughout the blooming seasons.

A 10-minute bus from Kamikitadai Station on the Tama Monorail or a 6-minute taxi from Musashi-Yamato Station on the Tamako Line.

Higashiyamato South Park

A large open space featuring athletic tracks and fields, Higashiyamato South Park is also home to the Tachikawa Factory Substation, a unique World War Two relic pockmarked with shrapnel damage. The park's water spots are a pleasure during summer while the autumn months bring alive the coloured leaves.

A 2-minute walk from Tamagawa-josui Station on the Tama Monorail or Seibu Hajima Line.

Tama Lake

An amazing destination, Tama Lake offers visitors to Tokyo some of the region's most incredible views. A massive reservoir of water, the lake is surrounded by beautiful green with plenty of places to enjoy the landscape. Famous, too, for the country's most photogenic intake towers, the waters of Tama Lake are crystal clear.

A 10-minute walk from Seibu-Kyujo-mae Station on the Seibu Sayama Line.
