Toyama Prefecture is known for having some of Japan's best seafood, the UNESCO World Heritage listed Gokayama Village, and snowy landscapes like the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. It's also home to some beautiful displays of spring color, including one of the country's best tulip events and sakura destinations that make the list of Japan's Top 100 cherry blossom viewing spots. This guide covers three of Toyama's best places for spring blooms.

Tonami Tulip Park

For tulip lovers, the Tonami Tulip Park is a little slice of heaven. Home to an incredible 3 million tulips covering 300 varieties, the park hosts an annual tulip fair which also includes activities like creating your own tulip artwork and tulip bouquets. More details about this year's tulip fair can be found on Japan Travel here.

Takaoka Castle Park

Takaoka Castle Park has made its way onto a lot of lists. It features on lists of Japan's Top 100 Urban Parks, the Top 100 Historical Parks, and the Top 100 Castles - even though the castle no longer exists. If that wasn't enough, it has also been designated as one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom viewing spots! There are close to 2000 cherry trees dotting the park grounds, ensuring there is plenty of springtime beauty to go around.

Matsukawa Park

Matsukawa Park is home to around 500 cherry trees that line the banks of the Matsukawa River. It is listed as one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom viewing spots, and a popular way to take in their beauty is via a boat cruise along the river itself. It's not far from the Takaoka Castle Park listed above, either – they're about 40 minutes driving time apart, making it feasible to visit both in one day.
