When Oct 3rd - Oct 5th 2025, 6:00pm - 9:00pm

Aizuwakamatsu City in Fukushima Prefecture will host a spectacular nighttime event this autumn with the Tsuruga Castle Projection Mapping 2025. Held from October 3rd to 5th, the show commemorates the 60th anniversary of the reconstruction of the castle's iconic main tower and marks the first projection mapping at the site in several years.

The projection mapping will transform the castle keep and stone walls into a canvas of light and color, with digital art inspired by Aizu's rich traditions—including lacquerware, handmade candles, and windmills—brought to life alongside works by local artist Yukimura Shukei. A highlight will be dazzling floral animations, echoing the castle's reputation as one of Japan's most beloved cherry blossom viewing spots.

The event will also feature atmospheric lighting throughout Tsuruga Castle Park, creating a nightscape that enhances the historic setting. Visitors can enjoy continuous eight-minute projection shows between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM each evening. The best part of all is that admission is free, with no reservations required.

This anniversary event offers both locals and travelers a chance to see the landmark in a new light (quite literally!), while celebrating the artistry and traditions of the Aizu region.

Getting there

Tsuruga Castle is located in walking distance from Aizu-Wakamatsu Station, which is served by the Ban'etsu West Line, the Tadami Line, and the Aizu Line.
