Illuminations are one of the highlights during Japan's winter season, but it's not only during winter that you can enjoy them. Many regions that receive substantial snowfall during winter opt to have their illumination events during green season, including the Adatara Kogen Ski Resort in Fukushima.
Running for over 10 years now, the illuminations have become one of the area's summer traditions, and the light displays include motifs of flowers and animals, constellations, and even a vibrant rainbow LED "river" running down the mountainside.
For those planning to visit during the 2022 event dates, please note that after August 29th the displays will only run on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
Getting there
Adatara Resort can be accessed in around 20 minutes from the Nihonmatsu IC on the Tohoku Expressway. On-site parking is available for up to 1500 vehicles.
For those visiting the area via public transport, the venue is around 25 minutes by taxi from Nihonmatsu Station (JR Tōhoku Main Line).
