The wait is over. On September 28th, Tokyo Disneyland finally opens their large-scale development that stretches across Fantasyland, Tomorrowland and Toontown. Its initial opening originally scheduled in April was delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The highlight of their new expansion is the area dedicated to the classic animated movie “Beauty and the Beast,” featuring the trackless dark ride that takes guests through Beast’s castle and iconic scenes on a magical cup that dances to the film’s soundtrack.
Guests can also visit the beautifully recreated village where Belle’s journey begins. Enjoy some baked goods at La Taverne de Gaston, or souvenir shopping at Village Shoppes, inspired by the bookstore Belle visits at the beginning of the film.
Just next to the Beauty and the Beast area is the “Happy Ride with Baymax” ride, Disney’s first theme-park attraction themed to the 2014 blockbuster, Big Hero 6. The ride is housed in Tomorrowland, along with the park’s first popcorn themed shop, “The Big Pop.” Meanwhile, Toontown will open “Minnie’s Style Studio,” Minnie Mouse’s own dedicated meet and greet.
Yet to be opened is the Fantasyland Forest Theater, an indoor theater for live performances located right behind Beast’s Castle. The theater will host “Mickey’s Magical Music World” show and the opening day has not yet been announced.
On top of the park’s COVID safety precautions, the new attractions will limit the number of guests for the time being. Guests are required to reserve a timeslot for the new rides, and make advance reservations to visit the new restaurants and shops through the park’s official smartphone app.
