While cherry blossoms are one of the major attractions in spring, there are also other flowering trees that grace Japan in the springtime.

Plum blossoms are very similar to the famous sakura, but bloom earlier in the year. The average blooming time is from late Feb. to early March, meaning they last a bit longer than the week long sakura trees.

Naritasan has over 400 plum trees surrounding the temple and the nearby ponds. The official Plum Blossom Festival for 2016 was from Feb. 20 to March 6th. On these days there is a daily tea ceremony which visitors can attend. And everything is free!
