Fancy your skills in video or image production? The 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo is calling on creators around the world to participate in the Shining Hat Projection Mapping Project. This initiative invites public submissions of projection mapping designs that will light up the EXPO Hall, turning its walls into an engaging digital art showcase for the duration of the event. It’s a great chance for creators to share their vision on a global platform alongside internationally renowned artists.

Competition Guidelines and Rewards

Organized by the Japan Association for the 2025 World Expo and the Projection Mapping Association of Japan, the competition challenges participants to explore the theme “Designing a Future Society Where Life Shines.” Content needs to be between 30 seconds to a minute in length, and the video format needs to be either MP4 (H264) or MOV (Apple Pro Res422). Entry is free, and winners will have their work displayed during the Expo and receive a pair of tickets to the event worth 15,000 JPY.

A Canvas for Innovation and Art

The Shining Hat, one of the Expo’s central attractions, is expected to draw millions of visitors from around the world. The structure features a projection area measuring an impressive 70 meters in width and 14 meters in height, providing a vast canvas for digital art. Alongside the public submissions to be projected onto its surface, the award-winning Canadian collective AVA Animation & Visual Arts will also contribute their creative expertise. Additional invited artists will be announced closer to the Expo start date.
