Projection mapping displays at historic structures have exploded in popularity across Japan in recent years. There are many great reasons for their appeal, with the fusion of tradition and modernity without damaging heritage buildings being one of them.
The Okazaki Digital Art Night Festival takes place at Okazaki Castle and the surrounding park, and the four-day event will include projection mapping displays from 5.30pm until 9pm. Approximately six minutes of content will be continuously projected at the castle tower with a four minute intermission, and five minutes of content will be continuously projected at the Otemon Gate.
This is a free event.
Getting there
Okazaki Castle can be accessed in around 15 minutes on foot from either Meitetsu's Higashi Okazaki Station or the Aichi Loop Railway's Nakaokazaki Station. Buses are also available from Higashi Okazaki Station which get closer to the venue.
For those who opt to drive, the castle is around three kilometers from the Tomei Expressway's Okazaki IC. Paid on-site parking is available – between 7am and 10pm it's charged at 100 JPY per 30 minute increment, and from 10pm until 7am it's charged at 50 JPY per 30 minutes up to a maximum of 1500 JPY per day.
